Beijing, July 3 – A 10-member delegation led by Professor Nieng Yan, President of the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART), and Dr. Huan Tu, Vice President, visited the China National Center for Bioinformation (CNCB). The delegation, consisting of scientific and administrative leaders from both SMART and the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL), was warmly received by CNCB Director Dr. Yungui Yang, Party Secretary Dr. Tieqing Huang, Deputy Director Wenming Zhao, along with senior department heads, early-career researchers, and administrative staff from the Center's Science and Technology Division.

Director Yang extended a warm welcome to President Yan and her delegation. He noted that both CNCB and SMART are at critical stages of rapid development and share common missions in frontier scientific exploration and translational research applications. He expressed anticipations for deepening collaboration between the two institutions -- particularly in the management and application of biomedical big data.

Deputy Director Wenming Zhao presented an overview of the national bioinformatics infrastructure initiative and the current status of CNCB's data resource utilization. Dr. Zhang Zhang, Member of the Executive Committee and Director of the Data Resources Division, gave a detailed briefing on the Center's developmental milestones, strategic objectives, construction progress, and future roadmap. He highlighted CNCB's three key future priorities: building an AI-powered bioinformatics data infrastructure, leading the construction of China's national bioinformatics data center, and establishing a global bioinformatics data service system.

Dr. Yichong Li, Director of SMART's Research Division, introduced the Academy's institutional positioning, founding chronology, research areas, infrastructure development, and progress in building an end-to-end biopharmaceutical innovation chain. He also shared updates on talent recruitment at SMART to build a world-class scientific community.

The two institutions engaged in vigorous discussions on biomedical data management and research, covering a wide range of topics including talent development, platform construction, technological collaboration, resource sharing, and international partnerships. In her concluding remarks, President Nieng Yan emphasized the complementary strengths between SMART and CNCB in resources such as platform governance and data evaluation, noting the numerous opportunities for future collaboration. She highlighted SMART's commitment to leveraging Shenzhen's regional advantages in scientific innovation and its unique environment as a national pilot zone for policy experiments. Together with CNCB, SMART aims to build an advanced research platform for biological and medical data, addressing critical nation priorities and contributing to the development of China's biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.
