SMART–SZBL Summer Camp Program

About the Program

The SMART–SZBL Summer Camp is an immersive academic event jointly hosted by the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART) and the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL). The camp is designed to foster scientific curiosity, promote academic exchange, and introduce outstanding undergraduate and master's students to the latest developments in biomedical research.

Through academic lectures, lab visits, hands-on experiences, and faculty-student interaction, the camp provides a unique opportunity to engage with leading scientists and explore potential future research pathways.

Each year, the summer camp welcomes approximately 150 highly motivated students from top domestic and international universities. Activities typically include an opening ceremony, cutting-edge scientific talks, campus and platform tours, and interactive discussion sessions with faculty members.

About SMART and SZBL

Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART) is committed to fostering original innovation, attracting and nurturing high-level talent, and advancing biomedical research and clinical translation. As a strategic platform for life sciences in the Greater Bay Area, SMART is building a full-cycle research and innovation ecosystem—from basic science to clinical application and industrial transformation.

Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL) is a major national-level innovation hub focused on biomedical research. With strong support from the Shenzhen municipal government, SZBL addresses critical challenges in health and medicine through interdisciplinary research. Its core areas include oncology, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, and infectious diseases. Research efforts integrate biology and information technology (IT + BT), spanning disease mechanisms, life informatics, novel drug discovery, and advanced medical imaging.

Together, SMART and SZBL are advancing a joint SMART PhD Program in collaboration with top Chinese universities, aiming to cultivate a new generation of innovative, cross-disciplinary scientists dedicated to exploring the mechanisms of life and disease.
