Collaborative Breakthroughs | SMART Joins Forces with Beijing Tiantan Hospital in Strategic Partnership

December 11, 2024, Shenzhen – SMART and Beijing Tiantan Hospital signed a strategic partnership agreement at SMART's Weiguang Campus. Professor Nieng Yan, Founding President of SMART, and Professor Yongjun Wang, President of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.


The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Huan Tu, Vice President of SMART and Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL); Professor Xinhao Zhang, Assistant to the President of SMART and Deputy Director of the SZBL; Professor Wenbiao Gan, Director of the Institute for Neurological Disorders at the SZBL; Professor Shuya Li, Director of the Clinical Trial Center at Beijing Tiantan Hospital; and Professor Xu Beibei, Director of the Office of the National Center for Neurological Disorders.



During the discussion session, President Yongjun Wang gave a detailed overview of the development of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, including its progress in scientific research translation, clinical trials, and collaborations with other institutions. He expressed strong confidence in the partnership with SMART and stated his hope to leverage SMART's platform to carry out both basic and clinical research. Through close collaboration between the two institutions, he aspires to jointly establish flagship clinical research projects and achieve original innovations in the Guangming District of Shenzhen. 


Following that, Professor He Yun, Co-Director of the Center for Translational Innovation at SZBL; Dr. Qiyu Peng, Deputy Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering; and Dr. Ke Zhang, Distinguished Researcher at the Institute of Neurological Diseases, each presented updates on their respective research areas. They provided a detailed overview of Shenzhen Bay Laboratory's recent innovations and translational achievements. During the discussion session, the principal investigators actively exchanged ideas with clinicians on scientific translation and clinical experience. The two sides engaged in in-depth and fruitful discussions, creating a dynamic and enthusiastic atmosphere.



This visit and signing ceremony mark a new stage of collaboration between the two institutions in the field of clinical neuroscience. We look forward to fruitful outcomes from this partnership that will benefit society and truly address the clinical diagnosis and treatment needs of major and complex diseases.
